I have a Canon Pixma MP600 inkjet printer. Turned it on yesterday morning, and it gave me an 'incompatible device plugged into the printer' error message. There was NO device plugged into the computer.

Later, based on things I found on the Internet that said this might be due to the paper jam lever being in the wrong position, I followed the steps to reset the lever that detects same. Didn't do anything except change the error message to 'there's a paper jam'.

Which there definitely IS NOT!I tried unplugging the power cord and USB cable. I tried rebooting the computer.

Nothing fixed the problem.Contacted Canon tech support and spent 10 min. On the phone with a rep, who had me go thru a number of steps, but ultimately concluded that the printer needed service.

Which costs almost as much as I paid for it.Anybody have any idea what could cause this error message, which makes the printer inoperable? I don't use the printer much, so turn it off and on during the day. Is it best to leave it on all the time (i.e., could that be the cause of the failure)?

In our environment we have 3 Canon ImageRunner Advance printers. Two are C5051 and one is an 8085. One of the C5051 and the 8085 both work fine when you click the Get Device Status button from their printer properties. However, one of the C5051 fails when trying to do the same. DIAS is running on the Windows 2008 R2 server we are using as the print server. They are all on the same subnet and the UFR drivers for both C5051 are identical. The ports are configured exactly the same.

In fact, I can't find any difference except for the actual IP address and the share name. Everything else is identical.This all said, can someone point me in the right direction? Yes, it was worth trying. We just swapped out 5 Cannon/Oce copiers here.

The installer was unable to get the properties to register. We found that the SNMP check was crucial. Just to be sure (and you've probably done exactly this), this is our procedure.1. Install the drivers for the Cannon on the print server.2. Configure a standard IP port (SNMP enabled) and point it at the copier.3.

Click 'get properties' on the local machine.If the server doesn't know the properties of the printer, it can't pass them to the workstation.
