So, whenever it rains water seeps in around my windshield onto my dash, and eventually forms a puddle down by my feet. The rubber around the windshield is cracking, but I think it should hold up for a while if I could seal the problem areas somehow. This just started happening this week.My question is, what should I seal the windshield with? I don't really want to buy all new rubber trim for it.

Would some type of plumber's caulking or putty work? Maybe something clear that isn't too visible?Thanks,- poom. You're right about needing to replace the winshield seal, and there are a couple good threads on this here. I'm not going to address any other leak points as these are also well covered in on this site. But, until then, flowable silicone is the next best approach. This is a special silicone formulation that squirts out easily and sets up slowly.

I did this last summer and used 3 NAPA tubes to do the exterior permieter of the upper and lower sides of the rubber. ACE also carries this product. It took about 10 mins each run, and I slid a small plastic putty knife around the rubber while squirting a SMALL amount of the flowable silicone behind as I went around. Even with my best techinque it was a little messy, but I wiped excess with clean shop rags.I also did the radio antenna seals, and took special care in the lower corners and lower, outer sides. This did solve my leaks - along with inserting new (PO missing) LOCK strips from Blunt. He quoted very reasonable prices on front and back, (and the lock strips) but since I'm going to replace the windscreen soon, I didnt want to use new seals yet.Hope this helps! See now here’s an argument for killing a kitten or two I posted a leaky windshield question this month as did someone else and now this one.

For some reason different members appeared in each of them and they all had good information sometimes different information.Like this, Dave, I’ve never noticed this flowable silicon stuff that’s cool for many auto as well as household applications thanks!I’ll still probably have my new windshield and new seal re-replaced eventually. I get a leak only when in a driving rain on the freeway so I suspect they either didn’t use the required sealant (as CD pointed out in other posts) or didn’t use enough in the right places.Anyway just sayinhere’s the other posts if interested. Thank you all very much for the varying opinions, I'm weighing my options still. I know that most of you are saying go for replacing the seal.but I think first I am going to try and caulk it, unless my local 02 guy has that part for cheap.

Can't really do the job myself either where the car currently is living.Time to start searching for the cheapest vendor for windshield strips?I'm guessing the putty or silicon is going to last me about 3 months before it starts leaking again.Oh, and if I were to try this myself, if I seat the windshield ever so slightly off is it going to cave in on me going down the highway?
